Safety and Efficacy of Fittydent Mega Denture Clean Agents: In Vitro

Abstract
|
|
|
Objective: This study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of the denture cleaning tablets (DCts) after some exposure of the plaque to the denture to make the same condition in the mouth closely and the safety of the denture by evaluating mechan-ical strength and discoloration.
Methods: This study was in vitro test with double blind method. Immersed dentures into plaque growth solution for 3 hours per day and then cleaned them with 200 ml cleaning solution for 5 minutes. This process was repeated for consecutive 5 days. Immersed them into disclosing solution for checking remaining plaque and then had second measurement. And then had third measurement after repeated process for consecutive 5 days. Since it was in vitro study, only the chance in denture color was evaluated by using denture colorimeter including the metal base and resin base’s mechanical strength measure-ment for denture safety.
Results: In this study with metal base which is so difficult of plaque staining and cultivation of bacteria, test metal base group showed superior results (82%, 83.4%, 85% results [p=0.001251]) compared with control metal base group. In addition, the study with resin teeth which has structural complex and easier cultivation of bacteria and plaque staining than metal, test acrylic resin teeth group showed superior plaque removing effect (83.6%, 82.6%, 83.4% results [p=0.000214]).
Conclusion: Fittydent Mega Denture Clean Tablet according to the instruction for use, 5 minutes cleaning in 1 tablet with 200 ml, showed strong plaque removing effect and expect bacteriostasis effect. It was also proved safety about both den-ture’s color and mechanical strength.
